Who owns Hallberg-Rassy?

Hallberg-Rassy is a Swedish shipbuilding company owned by the Rassy family. Christoph Rassy formed Hallberg-Rassy after he purchased Hallberg’s yard in 1972.

Harry Hallberg started his boat-building company at kungsviken in 1943. Harry Hallberg used GRP hulls together with wooden structures to build his first P-28 sailboat in 1963. P-28 sailboat built up a reputation for Hallberg shipyard. Mr. Hallberg set up his 2nd shipyard at Ellos, Sweden in the mid-60s.

Christoph Rassy purchased Hallberg’s yard at Kungsviken and at Ellos respectively in the 1960s and 1970s. Since the Hallberg brand is more famous than Rassy, Christoph Rassy formed the Hallberg-Rassy brand in 1972.

How long does it take to build a Hallberg-Rassy?

It normally takes 1~3years to build a regular boat. It might take a little bit longer to build a Hallberg-Rassy, but it really depends on how many people work on the boat, and how big is the boat.

Based on the Applicator group it took a team of members to build a Hallberg-Rassy’s hull between 12-15 weeks, so I image that the estimated time to complete a whole boat is 1~3 years.

There are 3 places on a Hallberg-Rassy sailboat that has blue stripes-Deck, Hull, and Waterline.

First place is the blue stripe around the cockpit. This blue stripe was painted with Epifanes 29 until the year 2003. After 2003 this blue stripe is gelcoat. Hallberg-Rassy starts this blue Gelcoat from the start of building this boat.

The 2nd place of blue stripe is at the upper place of the hull. This blue stripe was painted with international paint till the year 1986. Hallberg-Rassy updates the paint to Gelcoat after the 1980s.

The 3rd place of the blue stripe is at the lower part of the hull, or you can call this waterline. Hallberg-Rassy used to paint the waterline with 2-component paint, it started to use De Ljssel 2-component high gloss paint with code 35136 in the year 2010.
